Posted on 01.07.11

As the focus of many changes to protection and preservation of natural areas and the creatures that inhabit them, much of the tourism in the United States has switched from theme parks and man made adventures to getting out in nature and enjoying a different kind of vacation. Outdoor vacations are by many, reserved to the summer months in many parts of the United States, however, destinations once considered “summer” destinations, are inviting travelers to come and explore their areas year round.

Destinations such as the Great Smokey Mountains are offering a week of exciting events, in fact, over 230 free programs, focused on the natural surroundings. In an effort to cater to the traveler’s interests, new programs include music festivals, outdoor photography classes, wildlife viewing and hiking throughout the area.

People are being encouraged throughout the U.S. to get out and enjoy the natural world. Sleigh rides, bird watching, kayaking, wagon rides and hiking have become some of the most popular activities of late.

In the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma, January events include hay rides to view the symbol of our Nations freedom, the Bald Eagle, and are occurring 4 days this year. This promises to be a very popular event and as such, reservations are required.

Another area of interest that caters to the outdoors lover this time of year includes the Environmental Learn Center in Colvill Park in Minnesota which allows visitors to see hundreds of birds of prey along the riverfront, a birders paradise. February is an interesting month for tourism in Nevada’s Carson Valley for birders and an interesting event each year. The agricultural community in conjunction with the ranching community have gotten together to celebrate mans control of the environment working together with natures wonder with the Eagles and Agriculture event.

Other states which cater to the ecologically interested tourist include Texas, California, Michigan, and many other states throughout the U.S. Bill Bailey Travel Club encourages you to get out and explore all that the U.S. has to offer you when choosing your next vacation. Learn to be creative, try new things and enjoy more than just the regular tourist stops and you are sure to enjoy your vacation to the utmost.
