Understanding Passports With Bill Bailey Travel Club

Posted on 10.17.10

Knowing whether or not you need to purchase a passport or passport card in order to travel to a destination can be difficult if you are unsure. To assist you in preparing, Bill Bailey Travel Club would like to offer you information on current passport rules and regulations for your next vacation outside of the contiguous U.S. Regulations for cruising, visiting ports of call or flying to Bermuda may all require some research on your part. Don’t be left out of your next trip by not being prepared, spend some time getting to know more about U.S. Passports with Bill Bailey Travel Club.

What could be worse than not planning ahead and finding out a week before your scheduled trip that you do not have the paperwork necessary for your trip? In an effort to further understand, we are breaking it down into two categories to begin:

• Passports – Get you into any country requiring paperwork by any means of travel
• Passport Cards – Get you into countries by land or ship, no flights and contiguious to the United States.

Areas of confusion for travelers are usually similar and include Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda. The answer for what you need is as follows:

If you fly, you need a standard passport. If you travel by land or sea, you don’t, a passport card will do. It is good to note though, that if on a cruise, some cruise lines do require a passport. Check into what you need to travel before you go well in advance of your trip.

Clearing Up More Questions With Bill Bailey Travel Club – U.S. Territories

A U.S. territory is that which is overseen by the United States, but not a part of any U.S. states. A list of U.S. territories includes:

• Puerto Rico
• Guam
• U.S. Virgin Islands
• American Samoa
• Mariana Islands

As of current rules and regulations, if you are a U.S. citizen NO passport is required for travel to any of the above territories. All you must provide is a valid photo id for entry and exit.

To sum it up, the rules are as follows:

Travel International by air – Passport book required
Travel to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda or the Caribbean by Land – Passport book or card accepted
Travel to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda or the Caribbean by Sea – Passport book or card accepted
Travel to a U.S. Territory by air, land or sea – Valid photo ID required.

We hope that this information has helped you decide what form of paperwork is required for your next vacation outside of the U.S. States. Bill Bailey Travel Club encourages you to spend some time getting to know the rules on travel abroad before planning your vacation in order to make your trip more pleasant.
