If you are planning your next family vacation…
And you are trying to find a spot to appeal to everyone in the family, consider heading down to Tennessee. From its role in American history to its beautiful natural surroundings there is something for everyone in Tennessee. Here are a few reasons to choose this beautiful state as your next destination vacation.
The State History
Tennessee was an incredibly active spot during the Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement. There were close to 1,500 battles that took place throughout the state in the Civil War. Many of the battlefields have been preserved over the years and several of them are host to historical reenactments throughout the year. In relation to the Civil Rights Movement, Tennessee is where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated on the balcony of the Lorraine Hotel. That hotel and a nearby building were converted into the National Civil Rights Museum. Here you can learn about the struggles of our nation to work toward equality of all races and can tour the hotel room where Dr. King spent his last hours.
The Music
Nashville, Tennessee isn’t called “Music City, USA,” for nothing. This city has one of the richest music scenes in the country and is home to a plethora of concert venues, bars, music halls, record companies, street corner musicians, and clubs. You can come here and catch the hottest acts of today or discover the next big singer/songwriter. There are big venues like the Grand Ole Opry House and TPAC (Tennessee Performing Arts Center), and smaller venues like the Bluebird Café and the Douglas Corner Café. It does not matter where you go; you are likely to find good music in a great setting.
The Natural Wildlife
Tennessee is home to some awe-inspiring nature spots. From the canyons and nature trails in the state parks to the wildflowers and its geologic wonders, it is a state to be explored. Consider a flatwater canoe trip down Caney Fork, or hiking down the Tennessee River Trail as an outdoor adventure. Feeling adventurous? Head to Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area where you can spend the day riding horses, fly fishing, hiking through the park, or sailing in a marina.
